A Teen Wished He Had Seen Freddie Mercury Live
The kind of magic AI can’t “replace”…
As I walked across the college campus last week, I heard two students discussing Queen’s performance at Live Aid in 1985. They had seen it on YouTube over the weekend.
“Freddie Mercury? He had the crowd in the palm of his hand.”
“What struck me was how effortless his performance seemed. It wasn’t staged or overproduced. And the way he connected with the crowd was amazing. Do we see that anymore? Concerts today aren’t that raw and honest. He was in perfect sync with the audience, and it lifted everyone’s energy. I’m not kidding, I had goosebumps.”
I couldn’t help myself and had to jump in.
“You are absolutely right. We can all learn something from this. One thing I’m proud of is that I saw Queen on the Magic Tour in 1986. I got to see Freddie Mercury live.”
Their response surprised me.
“No way. I wish I had lived then. I can live without the podcasts and all the fake stuff on social media. He was the real deal! A real performer.”
We spent the next half hour talking about Freddie Mercury, Queen, and whether we’ll ever see anything like Queen’s Live Aid performance again.
