How My Life Changed After 500 Medium Stories

Five writing lessons to keep in mind as you grow older.

April 2015. I was 45 years old and wanted to do more with my research and ideas. I wanted to make them more accessible to a wider audience. That is how I ended up on Medium.

I converted an academic paper on venture capital and entrepreneurship into a story and posted it on April 11, 2015. A few months later, I did it again. One year later, I turned the process around. Before starting a research paper, I first published a story on Medium. Just to test if the idea was worth developing into a full research project.

It was only in 2017 that I decided to publish every week. The stories were a mix of ideas for academic work, topics I wanted to understand better, and questions that kept coming back to me. Artificial intelligence was one of those topics. So was the future of education. And how we prepare for a constantly changing world.

Hacker Noon became my main home on Medium. It was one of the popular publications on the platform, and my stories regularly appeared in Hacker Noon’s top story lists. I wrote about new technologies, trends shaping our future, and the changing nature of corporate careers. After 19 months, in November 2018, I had contributed 71 stories to Hacker Noon.
