It’s not surprising that minor incidents can have major impacts on our lives, whether it’s a simple conversation, a chance occurrence, or an unexpected meeting with a stranger. However, I never anticipated what would happen after I received an email from one of my former students last week.

“Dear Erik, It has been almost 12 years since I graduated from your program and ventured into the big, wide world. I still hold the university and its students dear to my heart and think it is time I ask a question that has been on my mind lately.”

She had started a new job in the legal financing industry and was filled with enthusiasm about it. She had been learning a lot in her new role and thought it would be an excellent opportunity to share her newfound passion with the current students.

“If it’s not possible, no worries! I simply want to share my passion and knowledge, and I’m always open to gaining new insights from younger generations. It never hurts to ask.

Would you be available for a call at some point in the coming days?”
