I Lived by ‘Show No Fear’ for Years — But This One Change Transformed My Life
I feel wealthier, happier, and more productive than ever before.
“Show no fear!”
That’s what he told me.
It was my first time in the city of Leeds in the north of England.
I was one of the speakers at a workshop on “Post-Crisis Trajectories of European Corporate Governance: Dealing with the Present and Shaping the Future.”
It sounded interesting at the time.
But after several hours of academia and stiff conversation, the speakers were eager to unwind.
An English pub. A few drinks. Some food. That was the plan.
I wasn’t convinced. I had other things to do. But networking mattered. And part of me hoped for some feedback on my presentation. So I went along.
As we walked in, an Australian colleague leaned in, voice low, serious.
“Have you ever been to an English inner-city pub,” he asked me.
“No,” I replied.
“Well, if you accidentally bump into someone and spill their beer,” he warned me, “just look them in the eye. Show no fear.”
