Let Me Live My ’80s Fantasy!
I have a feeling that years seemed longer forty years ago.
At a farewell drinks party, a colleague said, “I never expected to stay with this company for twenty years.”
Everyone laughed, assuming it was a joke.
Later, he doubled down. “When I joined this company in the 2000s, my friends called it a bold move to leave a secure and well-paid job for a different role at a completely new company.”
Now it was time for “another bold move.”
He was not running from anything. He was running toward something.
“I have to experience more. I have to live my fantasy.”
As he said it, I heard Lorde’s Royals in my head and sang along, “let me live that fantasy.”
His enthusiasm was contagious.
I liked him all the more for his bravery.
What Are You Gonna Do With Your Life?
The next morning, my wife and I escaped to a small B&B near a forest to spend the weekend hiking with our dog.
We had never been there. New paths. New smells (for the dog especially). That clean feeling of being nowhere in particular. A change of scenery to recharge ourselves.
