“Can you please look at my email and give your comments?”

The message pops up on my smartwatch, and immediately, I feel a wave of irritation.

It is Wednesday, 2:48 PM.

I glance at it, squinting because, of course, I still haven’t disabled notifications on my watch. They always annoy me, and I can’t read them without my glasses.

Yet, here we are — procrastination has won again.

It’s strange how the little voice often urges us to hold on to things that are annoying. We are afraid we will miss out on something important, even though most of the time, it’s just noise.

I turn to my computer. The email in question arrived one hour ago. It is all about some director’s re-appointment. It’s important, but not that important.

I’m even more irritated now.

“I really hate this,” I mutter to my colleague sitting nearby. “Do they think I have nothing better to do? It’s like they imagine I’m just sitting here, waiting for their emails.”

I expect no response. Just venting. But nope.
