When Did the Digital World Become Too Fast and a Threat to My Health
I need to make some drastic changes and reconnect with my childhood.
“If you have already completed the survey, thank you! If you have not yet done so, please take a moment to complete it at your earliest convenience.”
It was just another email sent on Wednesday of last week at 2:58 PM.
The subject line read, “URGENT: Please complete the survey.”
I missed it, either because it was buried under the overwhelming number of daily messages demanding my attention. Or perhaps I intentionally ignored it. This wouldn’t be the first time I overlooked a survey request. Most requests for surveys seem trivial or meaningless.
Then, the responses started flowing in.
It began with a trickle: “I’ve already completed the survey,” someone replied at 3 PM, obviously hitting “Reply All.”
A minute later, another person chimed in, “Done it!” Then another responded.
The floodgates soon opened, with each reply echoing the same sentiment until — inevitably, at 3:01 PM — someone inevitably asked the pressing question we were all thinking: “Why am I getting all these replies?”
