It’s Monday morning, and I’m heading to a corporate meeting and training center. I’m scheduled to deliver training sessions to a group of corporate lawyers. The idea is to get them up to speed on the latest developments in the industry and improve their skills in using the latest technologies.

I’ve been doing this for more than twenty years — twenty-three years, to be exact. I suspect some participants weren’t even born when I gave my first sessions. Time doesn’t fly; it just disappears. And, in the meantime, the world has completely changed.

I was so excited about my first training in 2001. I felt like I was doing something important and meaningful and loved the adrenaline rush of being on stage.

However, as I reviewed the presentation I gave in 2001, I was struck by how different things are now. I can’t give the same training as I did then, as it would be irrelevant and outdated. The information I conveyed then is now instantly available on everyone’s smartphone, often for free or at almost no cost. The participants wouldn’t appreciate it if I offered them the same content now. They would think it is a waste of their time.
